How many canned tuna do you have in your pantry? Let me guess, they are covered with dust, right? You bought them but they don’t really appeal to you as you were in the supermarket. Plus, you don’t know how to cook it either, right? If this is you, you’ve come to the right place. Today, let me show you 6 Ways to Enjoy Canned Tuna. Alright, are you guys read? Let’s get started!
#1 TUNA MAYO RICE (1 serving)
Ingredients:
- 2.4 oz (67g) canned tuna
- Handful of salad mix (or lettuce)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 cup (210g) hot cooked rice
- Kewpie mayonnaise, to serve
- Teriyaki sauce, to serve
Instructions:
1. Drain out the oil from the tuna.
2. In a small container, beat the egg. In a pan, heat the oil (1 tbsp) over medium-high heat. Add the beaten egg and scramble. Transfer the scrambled egg on a bed of rice.
3. Add some salad mix and drained tuna. Drizzle with mayonnaise and teriyaki sauce. Enjoy!
#2 GOLDEN FRIED RICE (1 serving)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (210g) cooked rice
- 2 egg yolks
- Salt, to taste
- 1-2 green onions
- 1/4 yellow onion
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2.4 oz (67g) canned tuna
- Black pepper, to taste
- Handful of salad mix (or lettuce), to serve
- Kewpie mayonnaise, to serve
- Teriyaki sauce, to serve
Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl, add the rice, egg yolks, and salt to taste. Mix together.
2. Thinly slice the green onions and onion.
3. In a pan, heat the oil (1 tbsp) over medium-high heat. Once it gets nice and hot, add the green onions (save some for garnish). Saute for 1 minute or until fragrant. Add the rice. Give it a good stir until most of the liquid has evaporated and every single grain is well coated.
4. Push everything to one side and make some space for the tuna. To that, add the tuna and black pepper to taste. Give it a few stirs and stir fry all together.
5. Place it on a serving plate. Garnish with some salad mix, tuna, and onion. Drizzle with some mayonnaise and teriyaki sauce. Enjoy!
#3 TUNA PANCAKES (Makes: 4)
Ingredients:
- 5 oz (150g) canned tuna
- 1/4 yellow onion
- 1/3 carrot
- 1-2 green onions (or garlic chives)(30g)
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 2 large eggs
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 3 tbsp Korean pancake mix (or all-purpose flour)
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil, plus more if needed
Dipping Sauce:
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp white vinegar
- 1/2 tbsp Korean chili pepper flakes (gochugaru), optional
Instructions:
1. Drain out the oil from the tuna.
2. Finely chop the onion and carrot. Thinly slice the green onions. Put everything in a mixing bowl.
3. To the mixing bowl, add the minced garlic, eggs, salt and pepper to taste, and Korean pancake mix. Mix well so that the tuna can be mashed.
4. Make the dipping sauce. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, vinegar, and Korean chili pepper flakes(if using).
5. In a pan, heat the oil (1 tbsp) over medium-high heat. Once heated, add some tuna mixture and cook until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side. Transfer to a serving plate. Serve with the dipping sauce. Enjoy!
#4 TUNA RICE BALLS (Makes: 2)
Ingredients:
- 5 oz (150g) canned tuna
- 1/4 yellow onion
- 1/2 chili pepper
- 4 tbsp kewpie mayonnaise
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 2 cups (420g) warm cooked rice, divided
- 1/2 cup roasted seaweed snack
- Generous pinch of toasted sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions:
1. Drain out the oil from the tuna. Finely chop the onion and chili pepper.
2. In a mixing bowl, add the drained tuna, onion, chili pepper, mayonniase, and soy sauce. Mix together until the tuna is completely mashed.
3. Moisten your hands with some water. Take some rice and spread it out on a cutting board. Add some tuna mixture on a bed of rice and form into a ball. Repeat the process with remaining ingredients.
4. In a plastic bag, add some roasted dried seaweed and break into little pieces. Add the rice balls into the plastic bag and shake it. Place them on a serving plate. Garnish with more tuna mixture and sesame seeds. Enjoy!
#5 TUNA PORRIDGE (1 serving)
Ingredients:
- 5 oz (150g) canned tuna
- 550ml water
- 1 cup (210g) cooked rice
- 1/3 zucchini
- 1/3 carrot
- Handful of oyster mushroom (or shiitake, king oyster, enoki mushrooms, etc.)
- 1 tsp Korean beef stock powder (or chicken bouillon powder, soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt)
- 1/2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- Roasted seaweed snack (optional), to garnish
- Generous pinch of toasted sesame seeds
Instructions:
1. Drain out the oil from the tuna.
2. In a pot, add the water, tuna, and cooked rice. Bring it to a boil over medium heat.
3. Meanwhile, finely chop the zucchini, carrot and mushroom. Add them to the pot.
4. Add Korean beef stock powder. (If you don’ t have one, you can substitute it with 1 teaspoon of chicken bouillon powder, soy sauce, oyster sauce or salt.) Using a spatula, keep stirring it.
5. Once you get the right consistency, turn off the heat. Add the sesame oil and give it a final mix. Transfer to a serving bowl. Garnish with some dried seaweed (if using) and sesame seeds. Enjoy!
#6 STIR FRIED NOODLES WITH TUNA
Ingredients:
- 5 oz (150g) canned tuna
- 1-2 green onions
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/4 yellow onion
- 1/2 chili pepper
- 1-2 green cabbage leaves
- 1 udon noodles
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil, plus more if needed
Sauce:
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tbsp Korean chili pepper flakes (gochugaru)
Instructions:
1. Drain out the oil from the tuna.
2. Make the sauce. In a small container, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and Korean chili pepper flakes.
3. Thinly slice the green onions, garlic, onion and chili pepper. Cut the cabbage into bite-sized pieces.
4. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Cook your noodles according to the package instructions.
5. In a pan, heat the oil (1 tbsp) over medium-high heat. Once it’s heated, add the green onions and garlic. Saute for 30 seconds or until fragrant. Add all the vegetables and the tuna. Stir-fry everything.
6. To the pan, add the drained noodles and the sauce. Stir-fry until the noodles are nicely coated. Add more water if needed. Transfer to a serving plate. Enjoy!
